Musculoskeletal ultrasound has emerged as a useful imaging study for the diagnosis of joint and soft tissue pathology. Sonographic assess is not difficult due to ankle and foot structure is almost located in the superficial position. Ultrasound allows the reliable identification of a variety of traumatic lesions affecting tendons, ligaments, vessels and nerves. The objective of this article is to review the main findings of ultrasound in the investigation of disorders of ankle and foot. (Clinical Pain 2009;8:55-68)
